Shut the Front Door

The fall weather is definitely upon us currently in Texas. Of course, that could change at the drop of a hat and we’ll be back to 90 degree temps. But it has been in the 60s mostly, and also rainy and overcast. I actually enjoy this kind of weather. I like it more when I can snuggle up at home though. The cats apparently feel the same way because there were no empty laps this weekend. And of course, our fall is always ushered in by Eric and I going to the State Fair. I’m working on a post to show you my pics from that outing and should be able to share in the next day or so (the pumpkins above are from our day at the fair). As for this weekend, I spent most of it indoors, except for Saturday morning. I was able to get back into the groove and go for my 5k training walk on Saturday morning. Of course, for our training walks, we walk a 5k anyway, so doing the actual 5k is not much of a stretch! But, I was glad to get back to it this weekend, having missed the past two weekends. Our next 5k is this coming Saturday, so I’m looking forward to having another one completed – that makes four so far this year!

I spent some time this weekend stitching on Jenny Bean. I am so in love with this piece. I finished filling in the side of the house and moved on to the front. Now I have a door!

And I finally got around to doing what I’ve been meaning to do for several weeks now, working on the baby quilt. I washed and ironed my fabric, did some cutting and sewing and now have about half a quilt top’s worth of blocks. I’m really pleased with how these 30s repro fabrics look together. Aren’t they fun?

Quilt Blocks

I hope to get some more done on this next weekend. I think it will be so cute when it’s finished, and I’m really happy with it. Even though it’s all blues, I love the pops of yellow, red and orange in it.

I am grateful for date night with Eric – so much fun!

Racing

Rain 2

It has been raining and raining and raining this week. I actually don’t mind the rain, but Eric is really ready for the sun to come out again. Last week I was also rushing to finish my book for book club, The Elegance of the Hedgehog. It’s an excellent book, I really enjoyed it, I just didn’t allow enough time for it. I love reading when it’s raining outside though.

Contented Little Sips

This morning, it was actually clear skies, which was fabulous since I had another 5k. This one was for Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital. It was definitely a beautiful morning.

Race for the Children City Hall

And you may remember that I am also racing to finish my pre-stitching for the Jane Timmers workshop I’m taking next weekend. Sigh. Not a whole lot of progress has been made on this.

But, I’ll do what I can. Honestly, I’ve been struggling with allergies and generally just not feeling 100%, so I really haven’t felt like stitching.

I do love the colors in it though. It’s still missing the third color, which is Pecan. I’d be really happy if I could at least get the needlecase done, I’ll be ecstatic if I can finish the biscornu too. But, most importantly, I am enjoying the time I stitch on it. And also enjoying a little stitching break too, which I apparently need. Sometimes I just need to be still, you know? But, the sun’s back out, so today is a new day!

I am grateful for cleaning out the cobwebs.

Just Hangin’ Out

Hanging Out

Ever have one of those days?

This little guy was relaxing outside my office window last week. He hung out there for quite a while.

Dallas Heart Walk 091209

On Saturday, Eric and I went down to Victory Park in Dallas and participated in the Dallas Heart Walk. As you can see, it was raining. But, we walked that 5k anyway!

The rest of the day on Saturday, I was restless. Not sure why, but I couldn’t just be still. I couldn’t read, couldn’t stitch, couldn’t get comfortable. Nothing. So, I just watched a little tv – mainly I watched the premiere episode of The Vampire Diaries, which I thought was good. But, that’s about all I got done on Saturday.

Sunday, I felt a little more settled and I decided I’d better pick up my stitching for the Jane Timmers workshop that I’m taking on the 26th and 27th. I haven’t done any of my pre-stitching. So, I got that out and put a dent in it. We’re stitching with Gloriana silk on 32ct I think, over one. This is the front of the needlecase. I didn’t quite get that “B” finished last night, and I still have the “C” to stitch, then I can move onto another color and do some Quaker motifs.

Of course, you know how in love I am with red silk.

I also have another project I need to get a move on. I’m going to stitch Goode Huswife’s Angel of Tulips. My fabric and thread just arrived on Friday. I’m stitching this in the called for 40ct Daily Grind by R&R with NPIs. So, that’s on my agenda soon as well.

Angel of Tulips

Love those colors – they are so fall-like. It has been raining here like you would not believe. It rained non-stop all weekend, and is still raining. But, I am glad for it. I haven’t done any more stitching on my leaves on Simple Things or on my Cuisine d’Ete. I’ll get back to those soon I hope! And at some point I’m going to have to bite the bullet and work on my MAGIC project that needs to be done by the end of the year. Where has this year gone? It’s just zooming by! Oh well, I am enjoying what I’m stitching, so there’s that.

I am grateful for Eric and I doing this 5k together.

Blooming

Simple Things 080909

Hi, all! Well, as you know I did my 5K on Saturday morning. You can see the recap here. I did survive, as did my feet. I went with vaseline on my heels and good socks. And no further blisters! I had a great time and feel so good about completing it too. I had to get up at 5am Saturday morning to get out to the race on time, so I was one tired chick by the time I got home. I pretty much just had a lazy afternoon. I watched Harry Potter & the Order of the the Phoenix (HP5), while Eric was stuck on a work conference call.

Watching Harry Potter

I didn’t even have the energy to stitch, I was so tired. Eric and I had plans to go out Saturday night, but his work stuff unfortunately cut into our plans. So, he took me out to dinner and we called it an early night.

Sunday I did make some progress on my stitching. I’m still working on The Simple Things, as you can see above. I’ve got some flowers started. And is it just me, or are Williamsburg and Cranberry Ice basically the exact same color? When that happens, I think “why did I bother to change thread?” Oh well. I really like how this piece is turning out though. I’m hoping once I get to the chain stitching I’ll have figured out how to chain stitch. The diagram doesn’t look overly helpful.

Tonight, I am going to see the new Harry Potter movie with my friend, Sherri, and I am really looking forward to it. Anyway, that’s it for me. I have next Saturday off from training, and then the Saturday after, I start my training with a new group for our 5K in October. Maybe it will at least be cooler in October!

I am grateful for my new sapphire blue top. And a wonderful weekend with Eric (minus the work part). Oh, and completing my first 5K!
