2012 Finishes
Happy New Year!  I can hardly believe it’s already the 10th of January!  I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday and spent some quality time with friends and family.  Before the new year gets away from me, I thought I’d do a little 2012 recap of some of the things I accomplished last year.
2012 was not a banner year with regard to finishes.  But, I enjoyed what I did find time to stitch on, and a lot of it was little things that caught my fancy, rather than working on existing WIPs.  You may remember that after starting Margaret Cottam in November of 2011, I was enjoying her so much and was so close to a finish that I decided to stick with her rather than having a New Year’s Day start like I normally do.  And sure enough, I finished Margaret only a few days into 2012.
Isabella Johnstone was the big star of my finishes this year.  I started her for my birthday in August of 2011, and when I picked her back up in April I continued to work on her steadily until she was finished at the beginning of August.  I really enjoyed stitching her and she’s a beauty!
I did work a little bit on quilting in 2012, I pulled my Kate Spain quilt back out at the end of the year and made some progress on it.  I also started my Kiss Kiss quilt for my birthday.  I also spent the first part of the year working on the Prince Charming hexie pincushions that were gifts for friends.  I made six of them, and still haven’t made one for myself.  I need to rectify that situation!  And in the fall I made some stitching wallets that I shared with you a couple of posts back.
I also made one other little piece that I haven’t shared yet.  I made a knitting needle case for a friend’s birthday.  I love the way it turned out.

Here’s the inside.  I bought the fabric back at the beginning of the year knowing I wanted to use it for her gift.

I think she was happy with it, and I am head over heels about that fabric.  So fun!

So, while I didn’t get a lot done this year, I did enjoy what I was working on.
And my 2012 finishes were:
  • Margaret Cottam
  • Hexie Pincushions (6)
  • Bonus Block #1 (AOTH)
  • Happy Birthday (AOTH)
  • Rabbit Box
  • Isabella Johnstone 1854
  • Quaker Pincushion
  • Glory House
  • Stitching wallets (5)
  • Sugar Skull 5
  • Five Star Pinkeep
  • Knitting Needle Roll
  • Candy Cane Stocking

For 2013, I have three main stitching pieces I was to focus on – John Reed, Anniversaries of the Heart and And They Sinned.  All three of those are pretty big undertakings, but certainly not an unreasonable feat to finish them all this year.  I did also have a new start on New Year’s Day, but I chose a piece that’s a bit smaller.  In fact, I’m already half way finished with it.

Also this year I want to focus on my quilting.  I did so little sewing last year that I want to rectify that situation.  I bought a lot of fabric, but now I need to do something with it!  I definitely want to work on finishing some of the quilt WIPs I have in progress.  So these will be my focus this year:

Kate Spain
Kiss Kiss
Blue & White
Partridge
Log Cabin
Pansy Park

Plus I intend to get back on track with my niece and helping her with her first quilt.

I definitely think these are all reachable goals, and it will be nice to focus on some of the pieces I’d really like to finish.

What’s your plan for 2013?

I am grateful for refocusing.

The Last Hurrah

Since it’s been several weeks since my birthday, I figured I’d better wrap up the birthday posts for now.  I mean, once it rolls into the next month, you kind of have to stop celebrating, right?  Plus, with the weather this past weekend, it’s definitely feeling more like fall than summer to me.  And people are already asking me about Christmas!!!  Let’s not rush it!  Anyway, one of my sweet friends gifted me with this gorgeous bone dish, thimble, scissors, bird threadwinders and a skein of some stunning Gloriana silk!  I am so in love with this.  Please expect to see these goodies show up in many a blog photo from here on out!
And a couple of weeks ago was the EGA meeting.  For our program that night we did a beaded tube fob.  You can see my start below (accomplished with much help and some exclamations of “just give it to me and I’ll fix your mess”).

It will be pretty if I ever finish it.  And at the meeting I was gifted with these amazingly beautiful earrings handmade by the same lovely lady that gifted me with the candy corn earrings.  Look how pretty these are…red and teal, one of my favorite color combos.

On my actual birthday, I spent the morning up at the quilt shop cutting fabric for a new quilt.  It was exactly how I wanted to spend the big day.  And while I was there, I decided to pick up some fabric for another new quilt. This one.
Planted Seed Designs Tradewinds Quilt Pattern
So, I march over to a big display at the quilt shop with a sign that says “Lily Ashbury – Tradewinds”.  I pick out four bolts of fabric and have them cut.  I congratulate myself on the beautiful score.

After I get home, I realize that the bottom two fabrics in this photo are not actually part of the Tradewinds line.  I think I can make them work, but boy that was an expensive mistake to make! Of course I assumed that the fabrics in the spot marked “Tradewinds” would actually be, oh I don’t know, Tradewinds.
And speaking of…the friend I discovered that quilt/fabric line with in July…she made me this spectacular pin cushion out of the Tradewinds fabric!  I am IN LOVE!  Plus, as a bonus, she brought me another fun pin cushion back from a quilt shop in Maui.  Look at that pineapple!!

And from that photo that is all summer… to the photo below that is all fall…

Another friend knit this great scarf for me.  The color of the yarn?  Zombie BBQ.  How awesome is that?!  And she gifted me with some nail polish from my new favorite brand (the color is Dosh).  Don’t you love how it matches my scarf?
Thut had to check it out…he approves.  (Notice his big boy collar!)

And finally…there’s no better way to say goodbye to summer than to finish it off with, well…a finish!

The Last of Summer

IMG_2626
It hardly seems possible that Labor Day is now behind us and it’s September.  I’ve been working on a little project as sort of a last hurrah of summer.  It’s Chessie & Me’s Glory House.  Sweet little thing, isn’t it?
And you may be wondering what I’ve been up to, since I haven’t blogged in a bit?  Well, I had a birthday.  And my birthday was full of fun celebrations with friends and family.  You can see a little recap in photos over on the other blog here.  But I just had to share a few of the wonderful gifts I received.
Sylvia made me this sweet stitching wallet.  I am in love with the Paris fabric!

And she must have gotten tired of me bugging her about the fabulous fingerless gloves with owls on them that she made for her daughter a while back.  So she made some for me!!!!  I LOVE THEM! (And in case you’re wondering…I’m modeling them with my blue moon manicure in honor of the blue moon that was on August 31st).
IMG_2629
I was also treated to a day of wonderful food, laughter, stitching and a little Downton Abbey by some friends.  One of them stitched this sweet Needlework Press piece for me.  I am in love with the color thread she used.

I have lots more to show you, but I’m attempting to not overload you with photos!  So, here’s a quick peek at what I’ve been working on. I’ve found it difficult to settle in and stitch lately, but I’ve been working a little bit on my John Reed sampler.  I’m working my way across the top border.  I love love love how the AVAS silks are popping on that Confederate Grey linen.
IMG_2631
It’s been awhile since I showed you ATS too.  Not a lot of progress.  I stitched that strawberry band and have started on the alphabet.
IMG_2654
Tuesday night I picked up the pre-stitching for a class I’m taking in October with Betsy Morgan. I’m excited about this one.
IMG_2634
That’s it for me today.  I’ll post again soon with some other birthday pretties I received, a new quilt start, and hopefully some more stitching progress!  Thanks, as always, for stopping by.  I really appreciate it!
I am grateful for another amazing year.
